When I saw that episode, I thought the joke was funny because it was ironic, and I also took it to mean that because this joke was featured on a show whose lifeblood is pop culture references, that it was referring to some actual criticism around Marisa receiving that Oscar. I have no other source, so if I'm wrong, that's totally on me. The first time I watched it I didn't notice my audio was only plugged in halfway. So I still had sound but it was all a bit distorted. When we got to the humans I thought we couldn't understand them because we saw things from Wall-E's POV or something
