Mickey Mouse Northwell Health Covid 19 2020 I Can Stay At Home Shirt
I am not a Mickey Mouse Northwell Health Covid 19 2020 I Can Stay At Home Shirt medical professional. This is just some friendly advice I’ve learned over the years from having doctors in my family. And yes, sometimes the pulse ox meters can be incorrect. The bottom line is to go to the hospital if you feel any tightness in your chest or struggle to catch your breath! Assuming you’re in reasonably good health otherwise. If you have underlying cardiac or pulmonary diagnoses, to begin with (For example COPD, CHF, asthma, even smokers/vapers) then talk to your doctor about what “normal” looks like for you. I’ve seen lots of folks never get above the low 90s but that was normal for them due to their diagnosis/health history. I had a cough and got scared it was Covid-19. My chest was tight and breathing was much more difficult than usual. A doctor friend told me to see if I had any anti-anxiety meds in the house and I found some Klonopin. 10 minutes after I took a pill I started relaxing, and shortly after that my whole chest relaxed and went back to normal I knew for certain it was anxiety causing the tightness and not a virus invading my lungs. Nurse checking in. I've compared mine against the pulse oximeters I use at work and they've always been very close. Close enough that I'm comfortable using for myself/my family. One caveat is that it's hard to get my toddler to hold her finger still long enough for it to read. What we are seeing with Covid-19 patients is that due to the infection and inflammation they are getting less oxygen in the lungs and less oxygen to saturate the RBCs. So it is common to see the "dropping their oxygen levels" and seeing the pulse -ox less than 93%. So now, let's say this infected person tries to go on a walk. They may experience a harder time getting enough oxygen to the cells. This is especially true in patients that already have underlying medical problems. So with patients that have uncomfortable oxygen saturation with a high risk of complications we are giving them supplemental oxygen to help deliver more oxygen to the lungs. If a patient presents to the hospital with low oxygen saturation, look really sickly or ill, needs oxygen supplementation then they usually get admitted. Most commonly Covid-19 is hitting the lungs causing inflammation. However, we have cases of it hitting the heart, kidneys, etc. All of which causes its own unique presentation of the disease, admission criteria for the hospital, and its own treatment protocol. Please feel free to ask any other questions!
