I remember when I was a kid, my parents, I Go Bowling Because I Like It Not Because I’m Good At It Shirt to let me play outside 'till late evening. I played with my friends without any adults nearby. We were climbing trees, riding bikes on roads, we were even making bonfires and roast sausages. Of course, I hurt myself many times. It was a nice adventurous childhood, but I can't imagine allowing my kids to do this alone, without me supervising them. I don't know if our parents were braver back then, or we are more scared today. Somewhat related story. When my mom would be in the backyard she'd usually kick so of the balls lying around. Well over time the balls ended up missing, except one bowling ball that was back there. One day I'm chilling in the backyard and my mom screams for me to look over at her. So, I look over and see my mom running straight at the bowling ball. Before I could say anything she had kicked it with all her strength and immediately after doing so she began to cry in pain. So yeah I guess that's a time I didn't have a ball but had a random bowling ball laying around. I'm just making a guess. But they said in the 100 pins one. In Wii Sports (not resort) that came with the Wii, there was the training one that had an extra row every frame. So only on the last frame can you hit the button. Maybe in a resort, there's a different button.
